About Us

The Wholesale Power Market of Russia began operations on 1st September 2006. I joined the market in May 2007.

The Mathematical Bureau project started a year later, in August 2008, during the Beijing Olympics. The project grew from my idea about a software service which provides forecast values for price and consumption in the Wholesale Electricity Market of Russia. The idea came to me as an application of the mathematical model I was developing for my PhD research.

The first version of the service was developed by two teammates. I created the forecast model in MATLAB and a software-developer friend of mine, Sergey Ischenko, created a Java solution for data workflow. This version began operations at the end of 2010.

This was an independent project to which we both dedicated all our free time; the project progressed while we were working full-time.

After three years, we had not reached our goals because the power market was too young and too closed for intensive trading activities so, in April 2013, we terminated our service.

As a result of our business failure, we transferred our efforts to writing blogs and scientific papers. During the seven years from the end of 2011 to the end of 2018, I was sharing my ideas and experience with the Russian-speaking audience via blogs and articles. A few other authors also added their stories to the project. My blogs and papers, all of which are related to mathematical modelling in power, had achieved 500,000 views by the end of 2018.

Since the beginning of 2019, I have been working on an English version of the Mathematical Bureau. This project acts as my business card and I intend to continue sharing my knowledge by translating my most popular texts into English.
